College Rivals airs around NCAA football season, or March Madness (the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's basketball tournaments; not Division II or III). The Price is Right gets the set decorated to look festive. It usually happens on the 4th or 5th week of March, or Thanksgiving weekend.

Two rivals of competing universities are called down (in other words, two different rivalries) to Contestant's Row for the usual One Bid. The rivals bid, as usual with the one not going over coming on-stage to play a pricing game, as usual. However, the LOSING contestant (in the rivalry pairing) has to go back to their seat. If the on-stage contestant loses their pricing game, their rival (sent back to their seat) wins $1,000. In subsequent bidding/call-downs, the first name called gets to start the bidding from the “winning spot.”
