Harry Wijnvoord (born May 12, 1949 in The Hague, Netherlands) was a former host of the original German version of The Price is Right as Der Preis ist Heiss (The Price is Hot) from 1989 until 1997. After a 25 year absence, he returned to host a new version of DPIH in 2022.

Life and career[]

Wijnvoord was born the eldest of four siblings in the Netherlands and moved to Germany with his family in 1964. He first did an apprenticeship as a furrier, later an apprenticeship as an assistant for business and tax consultants, in which he said, with his own statements "with difficulty and need" he passed the exam the second time. He quit his job after receiving his journeyman's letter. He then worked for the Greek airline Olympic Airways as a sales representative and for the shipping company North Sea Ferries.

Wijnvoord was discovered by RTL Entertainment chief Jochen Filser when he was looking for a suitable moderator for the new show Der Pries ist Heiss (The Price is Hot), a German adaptation of US show The Price is Right. Wijnvoord was hired after test shots.

After Der Priest ist Heist, he hosted Stars gegen Stars (Stars vs. Stars) (1997) and the cooking show Der Reis ist Heist (The Rice is Hot) on tm3. He also hosted the newly created RTL shop. He supported numerous RTL castings and shows. He was also an advertising partner for the German version of Slim-Fast and from 2007 to 2009 of ab-in-den-urlaub.de (The Invia Group). From 1995 to 2004, he also hosted the Franconian radio station Radio F in Nuremberg. In 2004, he borrowed the film Dietern - The Film the devil his voice. Hell was unmistakably drawn in that scene as a parody of the game shows Der Priest ist Heist and Gef Aufs Ganze! (Go All Out!), a German adaptation of the classic American game show Let's Make a Deal.

He cause a sensation in 2004 when he took part in the RTL jungle show Ich Bin Ein Star - Holt Mich Hier Raus! (I'm a Star - Get Me Out of Here!) a German adaptation of the British reality show I'm a Celebrity - Get Me Out of Here! where he voluntarily got out.

He worked as a horse auctioneer and as a host for the teleshopping channels Pearl.tv and MediaSpar TV. He also worked as a host at the RadioGroup in Rhineland-Palatine for various local stations. Since February 13, 2011 he has moderated The Harry Wijvoord Show on TV Mittelrhein and WWTV every Sunday. Harry Wijnvoord has hosted the travel channel Sonneklar.TV since November 2015. Since June 2015, Wijnvoord hs been moderating the TV format "in the footsteps of famous film classics".

2016 he took part in the 148th edition of the ARD - the game show Wer weist den sowas? (Who knows something?) part, in which he lost to the opposing team alongside team captain Elton.

In September 2016, he was seen in the Tele-5 documentary Old Guys on Tour (OGOT). There former show host (i.e. Jorg Draeger, Frederic Meisner, Bjorn-Hergen Schimpf) hiked on the Jakobsweg for several days. Karl Dall was active as a travel guide and commentator.

Until his divorce from his first wife Marianne in 1998, Wijnvoord lived in Roth in Nurmberg in central Franconia, where he also ran the Wijnvoord bistro. He has a son from his first marriage (1977). He also spent several years at Ironman Europe taking place in Roth as well as at its follow-up event Challenge Roth, speaker at the finish line. He lives in Senden in the Munsterland.

In the summer of 2009. speculation about a resumption of production of the consignment were loud, which was supposed to take place in 2010. The production company Grundy Light Entertainment set clear, however, that for the format no pilot episode was planned and it still would be no station would buy a new edition. It is usual to work in the background in various formats, but there was no concrete plans. On 31 May 2010 launched by Winjvoord the petition "Get The Price is back!". He called on all fans to support a comeback of his cult show by signing the petition to the German TV station, and optionally promote other signatories. The action was unsuccessful and the associated website has now ceased.

After a 25 year absence, in 2022, Winjvoord returned to host a new version of Der Preis ist heiß (The Price is Hot) on its original channel RTL consisting of only three episodes in total.
