Season 40 (2011-2012)[]

Pricing game calendar for Season 40, hosted by Scorpz.

Week 1 (1,562 – 563xK): September 19-23

  • The set is decorated for the season premiere all week, the "40 Years" signs near the Big Doors and George's podium remain for the entire season.
  • On Monday, the light border becomes silver; additionally, its outer edges no longer obscure the audience, similar to how the original border appeared before the luma key was adjusted in the early '80's.
  • On Monday, the opening shot changes to the "40 Years" sign near George's podium.
  • On Monday, a new larger Door #4 is introduced.
  • On Monday, the audience undergoes, for lack of a better term, a set change: The chairs change back to blue; a strip of LED lights surrounds the audience, running around the top of Door #4; new curtains are introduced that are somewhat less pastel, although the basic colors remain the same; the stairs in the back become black; blue borders are placed on the floor along the aisles; a gray backing is placed along the base of the rear wall, replacing at least one row of seats; the raised stage is redone with a pattern resembling the front side of the spinning panel of the Turntable wall; and the PA booth is extended to the rear right-hand corner, with a metallic Goodson-Todman asterisk reclaiming the spot it had once held before being covered with a curtain during Season 33.
  • On Monday, the audience signs are moved from the rear wall to the new light strip, from which they hang in front of the back corners; additionally, the dollar signs in the audience signs now rotate. The latter change is not permanent at this point, as this week's episodes were taped out of order.
  • Monday's opening spiel is, "Here it comes! From the Bob Barker Studio at CBS in Hollywood! It's the premiere episode of the 40th season of The Price Is Right!"
  • On Monday, a "40 Years" logo is introduced with that text on a banner under the main logo; the "40" spins into place on an animated Big Wheel. This graphic is used in the opening, on Door #4, in the closed-captioning and consolation prize plugs, and during the mid-show bumper; the logo also replaces the Season 36 logo on the lights in the ceiling.
  • On Monday, the silver edges are removed from the Contestants' Row displays, and the green borders are enlarged; additionally, a metallic base is placed underneath the displays.
  • On Monday, Race Game is played for four cars.
  • On all shows this week, classic clips are shown while going into two of the commercial breaks.
  • On Monday, George's call-down windows and its dollar sign become silver.
  • On Monday, Win at Home's name is changed to "Play at Home."
  • Beginning on Monday, the light strips on the Big Doors and the Turntable spend large portions of the show with the same colors as their respective doorframes' bases -- purple for the Turntable wall, orange for Door #1, blue for Door #2, and green for Door #3.
  • On Monday, during the last commercial, everyone in the audience receives a copy of the Xbox 360 version of The Price Is Right Decades; this also serves as the day's PriceIsRight.com plug, as Drew instructs viewers to visit the website for a chance to win a copy of said game.
  • On Tuesday through Friday, the last line of the opening spiel is, "It's the 40th season of The Price Is Right!"
  • On Friday, Spelling Bee is played for a restored 1956 Chevrolet 210.

Week 2 (1,563 – 564xK): September 26-30

  • Beginning on Monday, several changes seen in Week 1, which was taped out of order, are temporarily undone; these include the spinning dollar signs on the audience signs, the "40 Years" logos on the lights above the audience, the blue audience chairs (which go back to being red), and the color-coded light strips on the Big Doors and the Turntable. Additionally, the "40 Years" signs by the Big Doors temporarily change to the signs from the Season 39 premiere, relabeled for Season 40.
  • Wednesday show is the 7,500th episode. It is also the earliest known correct on-air acknowledgment of the episode count.
  • On Wednesday, the dollar sign by George's podium reads "7,500th episode" instead of "40 Years".
  • On Wednesday, the background on Door #4 is the 2001-2007 audience curtains.
  • On Wednesday, the "40 Years" banner in the logo is replaced with a clapboard reading "7500th Show"; in addition to the usual places, this logo appears during every commercial outro.
  • Wednesday's opening ends with, "You are the first four contestants on our special 7,500th episode of The Price Is Right!"
  • On Wednesday, every game is played for either a car or cash; three of each are used.
  • Wednesday show is the first three-car day since Roger's lineups ran out after the seventh week of Season 37.
  • Wednesday show is the only episode to feature three cash games.
  • On Wednesday, Push Over is played for a car.
  • On Wednesday, the prizes in the Showcase are inspired by prizes on earlier "landmark" episodes; the prizes in the first showcase are based on clips from the ceremonial 1,000th, 2,000th, and 3,000th episodes, and those in the second showcase are based on clips from the ceremonial 4,000th, 5,000th, and 6,000th episodes.
  • On Wednesday, there is no music or audience shot while returning from the final commercial.
  • On Thursday, Pick-a-Number is played for a car.
  • On Thursday, the slip distribution in Punch a Bunch is significantly altered; there are now one $25,000 slip, two $10,000 slips, four $5,000 slips, eight $2,500 slips, ten $1,000 slips, ten $500 slips, ten $250 slips, and five $100 slips. The $50 slips are done away with, as are the Second Chances.
  • On Friday, George Lopez appears to help present the second showcase. This was the result of winning a bet he had made with Drew on Lopez Tonight in 2010 over whether or not LeBron James would leave the Cleveland Cavaliers; that portion of Lopez's show was replayed just before the second showcase.
  • On Friday, the PriceIsRight.com plug occurs after the last commercial, with Drew instructing viewers to go there to see behind-the-scenes clips with George Lopez.

Week 3 (1,564 – 565xK): October 10-14

  • Originally scheduled for October 3-7.
  • On Thursday, during the break after the sixth game, Drew is given a signal that the show is on the air when, in fact, it is not; as a result, the first spin of the second Showcase Showdown occurs during the commercials with no cameras rolling. After the consolation prize plugs, Drew explains to the viewers why the first spinner already has 85¢ and allows her to redo the hellos that she had said during her spin.
  • On Friday, during the final commercial, everyone in the audience is given a bag of Gimbal's jelly beans; this also serves as the day's PriceIsRight.com plug, as Drew instructs viewers to visit the website for a chance to win a bag of said jelly beans.

Week 4 (1,565 – 566xK): January 6, 2, 4, 5, 3

  • Originally scheduled for October 10-14.
  • On Monday, October 10, the presentation for Play at Home is redone; it now starts and ends with announcements by George. This change does correspond more reasonably to a calendar date than to a particular episode.
  • On all shows this week, a celebrity helps the contestants play their pricing games -- Heidi Klum on Monday, Snoop Dogg on Tuesday, Neil Patrick Harris on Wednesday, Chris Daughtry on Thursday, and Jenny McCarthy on Friday. The celebrities also help to present the showcases each day.
  • The celebrity guests this week win the equivalent of the contestants' pricing game winnings in cash for the various charities they are playing for; they also spin the Big Wheel at the beginning of the second Showcase Showdown and win cash in the value of their spin times $100 (or, alternately, the value of cents spun times 10,000). Heidi Klum plays for UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund; Snoop Dogg plays for the Snoop Youth Football League, an inner-city children's sports program; Neil Patrick Harris plays for the Noreen Fraser Foundation, which funds cancer research; Chris Daughtry plays for the Alzheimer's Association, which seeks to eliminate and combat the most widely-known form of dementia; and Jenny McCarthy plays for Generation Rescue, an organization which promotes the scientifically discredited concept of autism in children being caused by vaccinations.
  • On this week's shows, which were all taped drastically out of order, the set changes seen in Week 1 are present.
  • On this week's shows, the PriceIsRight.com plugs take place at the beginning of the second part of the Showcase and involve Drew instructing viewers to visit the site for a chance to win a TPIR name tag signed by that day's celebrity; these name tags also serve as the door prizes this week. This does not occur on Monday, nor does any sort of PriceIsRight.com plug; however, it could have merely been edited out, as the episode visibly underwent an unusually large amount of editing.
  • On Monday and Friday, presumably due to time constraints, the consolation prize plugs are not done; similarly, on Wednesday and Friday, the first part of the Showcase begins as it did for the first 36 seasons.
  • On Tuesday, Lucky $even is played for a Chevy Camaro.
  • On Tuesday, Check-Out is played for a car -- specifically, a restored 1962 Lincoln Continental convertible.
  • On Tuesday, Drew lets Snoop Dogg reveal the prices of the showcases.
  • On Friday, Punch a Bunch is introduced with the mid-'90s Plinko harps.
  • On Friday, the blue portions of the Punch a Bunch logo are significantly darker than usual; due to the episode being taped drastically out of order, this change does not become permanent for several more weeks.
  • On all of this week's shows except for Monday's, the Showcase includes a prize that is not intended to be included in the contestant's bid, as it cannot reasonably be assigned a price; Tuesday offers VIP onstage tickets and backstage passes to Snoop Dogg's concert at the Voodoo Music Festival; Wednesday a VIP backstage tour of and a walk-on role on How I Met Your Mother; Thursday offers tickets for a Daughtry USO concert at NavSta Rota, and Friday offers VIP tickets to attend a Blackhawks-Kings hockey game with Jenny McCarthy.

Week 5 (1,566 – 567xK): October 17-21

  • On Tuesday, at the start of Act 4, Drew recognizes cameraman Marty Wagner, who is working his last taping before retiring.
  • On Tuesday, after the Showcase, Drew again wishes Marty a happy retirement and also offers condolences to the family of Sylvester, a CBS commissary worker who had recently passed away.
  • On Wednesday, the new "40 Years" signs and color-coordinated lights strips at the Big Doors return permanently.
  • On Wednesday, Double Prices is played at Door #3.
  • On Friday, for no apparent reason, Grocery Game's sign is absent.

Week 6 (1,567 – 568xK): October 3-5, December 15, June 19

  • Originally scheduled for October 24-28.
  • Originally rescheduled for October 3-5, December 15, October 7.
  • Originally rerescheduled for October 3-5, December 15, June 18.
  • On Tuesday, Range Game is played for a car.
  • On Tuesday, a rare reference to a retired pricing game is made as a result of contestant Darren's Professor Price t-shirt; Drew explains to the audience that the game was played only two times before being done away with.
  • Thursday's show, which was not broadcast until December, has a "holiday gift idea of the day" announcement added to the first Item up for Bids.
  • On Thursday, Larry Emdur, the longtime host of The Price Is Right in Australia, appears on the show; he calls down the seventh contestant, announces the fourth Item up for Bids, hosts the fourth game (Cliff Hangers), and participates in the first showcase.

Week 7 (1,568 – 569xK): October 31-November 4

  • Monday's show is a Halloween episode themed as a 1970s disco party. Everyone in the studio is dressed in disco costumes provided by Party City (which also provides the third Item up for Bids), many of the prizes relate to either disco or the 1970s, and a number of set elements are temporarily altered to fit the theme; most notably, the original orange shag carpeting returns to the Turntable, and the Turntable walls flash between purple and red for much of the episode.
  • On Monday, much of the music is altered to fit the disco theme. A disco remix of "Walking" plays during the opening, a disco cue supplants "Walking" for the remainder of the show, and the theme is replaced with a disco remix of the theme that is best described as a cross between the Barker and Davidson versions. Most of the other music is either random disco songs or cues from the largely dormant 1972, 1974, and 1976 music packages. The only standard songs used during the episode are the closed captioning cues and "Dig We Must."
  • On Monday, the light border is not used during the opening.
  • On Monday's show, which was taped out of order, the blue seats, rotating dollar signs, and "40 Years" ceiling signs are present.
  • On Monday, the background on Door #4 is a set of cascading lights similar to the pattern on the Season 31-34 Big Doors; this pattern also appears on George's podium and as the background for the second transition in the consolation prize plugs.
  • Monday's opening spiel is, "Right on, right on! Here it comes! From the grooviest studio at CBS in Hollywood, it's The Price Is Right!"
  • On Monday, the contestants are told to "Get on down" instead of "Come on down."
  • On Monday, Drew is introduced as "Your host with the most, Drew 'Funkmaster' Carey!"
  • Monday's opening ends with, "You are the first four brothers and sisters as we get down, get funky, I mean funky '70s style, on The Price Is Right On!" The show is referred to as such for the remainder of the episode.
  • On Monday, the dollar sign on George's podium is gold.
  • On Monday, all of the pricing games' sets are temporarily altered to make them look more 1970s-ish; this is somewhat ironic, as all six of the games were introduced during the first two seasons.
  • On Monday, no real car games are played; Bonus Game and Grocery Game are both played for a car. Bonus Game specifically is played for a restored 1973 Ford Mustang convertible. This is only the ninth known daytime show with no real car games and is currently the most recent.
  • On Monday, George's call-down window and its dollar sign are green.
  • On Monday, shots of everyone in the studio disco dancing are shown between the third game and the first Showcase Showdown and between the fifth and sixth games. George announces, "We'll be back, and I mean way back, right after this," over the first shot and, "Groove on back to The Price Is Right On right after this!" over the second.
  • On Monday, a special version of the logo surrounded by a disco ball appears during the "everyone dancing" shots, the mid-show bumper, and the shot of the contestants not appearing onstage during the consolation prize plugs.
  • On Monday, Ted Lange appears to help present a showcase themed around The Love Boat.
  • On Monday, during the last commercial, everyone in the audience receives a five-pound Hershey bar; this also serves as the day's PriceIsRight.com plug, as Drew instructs viewers to visit the website for a chance to win one of the said candy bars.
  • On Monday, an unidentified contestant was disqualified after the taping when it was discovered that he or she was ineligible.
  • On Thursday, Squeeze Play is played for a car.
  • On Thursday, Daniel Russell and Griffin Birney from Billy Elliot appear to help present the second showcase, which is themed around the musical.
  • On Thursday, during the last commercial, everyone if the audience receives a copy of the Billy Elliot soundtrack; this also serves as the day's PriceIsRight.com plug, as Drew instructs viewers to visit the website for a chance to win one of the said soundtracks.
  • On Friday's show, which was taped out of order, the blue seats, rotating dollar signs, and "40 Years" ceiling signs are present.

Week 8 (1,569 – 570xK): November 7-11

  • On Tuesday, the rotating dollar signs, blue chairs, and "40 Years" ceiling logos are added to the set permanently.
  • Friday show is a Veterans' Day-themed episode.
  • On Friday, everyone in the audience is a member of the military.
  • On Friday, The Star-Spangled Banner, played by a marine band in the audience, is heard instead of "Walking" and the theme during the opening, as well as during the credits; it and various other patriotic songs are also used during all commercial outros, and the theme is not played at these times even if pricing games are won. The theme is heard in its usual places in the first closed-captioning plug, the consolation prize plugs (in remixed form, as always), and while returning from the final commercial.
  • On Friday, the logo in the opening and on Door #4 is surrounded by a ring with stars and the words "Salute to the Military." This ring also appears on the logo on the logo that flies onto the bottom of the screen for the closed-captioning and consolation prize plugs and after the fourth game, which appears before every commercial on this episode.
  • On Friday, the square pattern on Door #4 is replaced with an image of the American flag; this also serves as the background for George's podium, whose dollar sign is tinted blue, as well as for the second transition in the consolation prize plugs.
  • On Friday, the light strips around the audience spend the show either displaying blue or cascading red, white, and blue; the latter occurs mostly during the opening, come on downs, commercial outros, and the closed-captioning plugs.
  • On Friday, the audience members' name tags show the insignia of their branch of the military along with their names.
  • On Friday, the contestants' ranks are read with their names as they are called to come on down.
  • Friday's opening spiel ends with, "You are the first four contestants as we salute our nation's military on The Price Is Right!"
  • On Friday, the set is decorated for Veterans' Day; as a result, the "40 Years" signs in front of the Big Doors are absent.
  • On Friday, Drew is flanked by a Marine Corps color guard during his entrance.
  • On Friday, the light strips around the Big Doors are red on Door #1, white on Door #2, and blue on Door #3 for much of the show.

  • On Friday, the first showcase includes admission to the premiere of the movie Jack and Jill; Drew instructs the contestants not to include this while bidding since it cannot reasonably be assigned a price.

Week 9 (1,570 – 571xK): November 14-18

  • On Monday, everyone in the audience is a teacher.
  • Monday's opening ends with, "You are the first four contestants as we salute teachers on a special episode of The Price Is Right!"

  • On Tuesday, for no apparent reason, Cover Up uses Push Over's think music.
  • On Tuesday, a pet adoption segment occurs after the second showcase, which is themed around prizes that are good for the Beauties' dogs.
  • On Tuesday, during the last commercial, everyone in the audience receives a $25 gift card from Petco; this also serves as the day's PriceIsRight.com plug, as Drew instructs viewers to visit the website for a chance to win one of the said gift cards.
  • On Thursday, the cast of River dance appears to help present the second showcase.
  • On Thursday, during the last commercial, everyone in the audience receives a copy of the River dance soundtrack; this also serves as the day's PriceIsRight.com plug, as Drew instructs viewers to visit the website for a chance to win a copy of the said soundtrack.
  • On Friday, an unidentified contestant was disqualified after the taping when it was discovered that he or she was ineligible.

Week 10 (1,571 – 572xK): November 21-23

  • Thanksgiving week; only three shows.
  • On Tuesday, Drew hosts the show with his right arm in a cast; this stemmed from an injury he sustained when he fell while running.
  • Wednesday's show is vaguely themed around Thanksgiving; the Door #4, opening, and bumper logos have leaves cascading across them and display a "Happy Thanksgiving" banner at their base, and Door #4 itself and the background for the second transition in the consolation prize plugs consist entirely of more cascading leaves.
  • On Wednesday, the darker blue in the Punch a Bunch logo returns permanently.
  • On Wednesday, George's call-down window and its dollar sign are a brownish orange.

Week 11 (1,572 – 573xK): November 28-December 2

  • At some point after Monday's show, Magic #'s electronics fail, causing the game to be removed from the pricing game rotation while it is reprogrammed; it is not played again for nearly four months.
  • On Tuesday, Drew again wears a cast on his right arm.
  • Beginning on Thursday and continuing through Christmas, the first Item up for Bids is designated the "Holiday Gift Idea of the Day."
  • On Thursday, the money amounts in Pocket ¢hange are redesigned with a red border and a coin background; the background does not appear on the zero cards.

Week 12 (1,573 – 574xK): December 5-9

  • Tuesday's opening ends with, "You are the first four nurses we salute on a special episode of The Price Is Right!"
  • On Tuesday, George introduces Drew as "Dr. Drew Carey."
  • On Tuesday, Drew and George wore stethoscopes.
  • On Wednesday, during the last commercial, everyone in the audience receives a copy of The Help, the subject of the day's "The Price Is Right Book Club" showcase. This also serves as the day's PriceIsRight.com plug, as Drew instructs viewers to visit the website for a chance to win a copy of said book.

Week 13 (1,574 – 575xK): December 12-14, October 7, December 16

  • On Monday, the front of Range Game has been repainted a noticeably different shade of yellow, and metal borders are placed around the game's base.
  • Thursday's show is partly sponsored by Ford Warriors in Pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month (in reference, obviously, to the day the show was broadcast instead of its proper spot in the schedule). Specifically, the first Item up for Bids and a customized car in the Showcase were provided by the organization.
  • On Thursday, the backgrounds on Door #4 and George's podium are a pink field with pink sunburst patterns cascading over it; additionally, the dollar sign on George's podium is pink.
  • Thursday's opening ends with, "You are the first four contestants as we honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month on The Price Is Right!"
  • On Thursday, the opening logo has a red square pattern, and "40 Years" is flanked by pink ribbons; this logo is also seen on Door #4, in the closed-captioning plugs, in the mid-show bumper, and in the consolation prize plugs.
  • On Thursday, the lighted squares on the Turntable wall remain purple for most of the show, presumably in lieu of the ability to make them pink.
  • On Tuesday, before the first Item up for Bids, Drew announces that everyone in the audience has received a scarf from Ford Warriors in Pink.
  • Thursday's show has no Holiday Gift Idea of the Day, as it was known when the show was taped that it would be broadcast in October.
  • On Thursday, Ford Warriors in Pink donates $10,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure on behalf of the contestant in the first game.
  • On Thursday, numerous everyday graphics are pink, including George's call-down window and its dollar sign, the Big Wheel split-screen separator, the ticket plug graphic, the square pattern in the background of the consolation prize plugs, the PriceIsRight.com graphic, and the graphic displaying the amount won by the Showcase winner.

  • On this week's shows, all instances of the graphical "40 Years" logo are replaced with the "Happy Holidays" logo from Season 39's Christmas episodes.
  • In some of this week's openings and credits, the lights on the Turntable wall cascade various patterns of red and/or green; there does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to which episodes this does or does not occur on.
  • On this week's shows, George's podium has a Christmassy background and a red dollar sign.
  • On this week's shows, George's call-down window is red and green, and its dollar sign is green.
  • On Monday, the address on the e-ticket plug is changed to PriceIsRight.com; this sometimes results in the ticket plug and the PriceIsRight.com both occurring at once at the end of the second Showcase Showdown.
  • On Monday, during the last commercial, everyone in the audience receives a Winter Classic hockey puck with that game's logo on one side and the TPIR logo on the other; this also serves as the day's PriceIsRight.com plug, as Drew instructs viewers to visit the website for a chance to win one of the said hockey pucks.
  • On Tuesday, Daniel Goddard appears, essentially serving as a male Barker's Beauty and also announcing a small portion of the second showcase.
  • In some of this week's PriceIsRight.com plugs, Drew asks viewers to go to the website to vote for prizes for next Friday's "Best Prizes of 2011" show despite the fact that the episode in question had already been taped.
  • Wednesday's show deviates slightly in theme from the rest of the week, as it occurs on the first day of Hanukkah: the graphical logo is flanked by dreidels; the background on Door #4 is a red curtain with white sparkles cascading down it; the light strips cascade blue and white instead of red and white; George's podium and call-down window use their standard color schemes; and the background for the consolation prize plugs is a blue version of the background on Door #4.
  • On Thursday, presumably due to time constraints, both segments of the Showcase begin as they did prior to Season 37.
  • On Thursday, Diana DeGarmo, portrayer of Angelina Veneziano on The Young and the Restless, appears to help present the second showcase.

  • Presumably originally scheduled for January 2-6.
  • Originally rescheduled for October 24-28.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday's shows were inadvertently posted to CBS.com on their original reschedule dates of October 25 and 26, respectively.
  • On Tuesday, as a result of this week taping drastically out of order, Range Game appears as it did prior to December 12.
  • On Wednesday, for possibly the first time ever, the four-panel small prize table is seen in its entirety during Shell Game.
  • On Thursday, as a result of bad editing, the last spin of the second Showcase Showdown initially appears to have been counted despite not going all the way around; closer inspection reveals that a spin that didn't go all the way around had actually been edited out and that the aired spin was good.
  • On Thursday, an unidentified contestant was disqualified after the taping when it was discovered that he or she was ineligible.
  • On Friday, Antonio Banderas appears in a taped message during a showcase about Puss in Boots.
  • Friday's first showcase includes admission to the premiere of Puss in Boots and a limo ride to said premiere; Drew instructs the contestants not to include these while bidding, as they cannot reasonably be assigned prices.
  • On Friday, George and Drew plug the premiere of Puss in Boots on October 28, semi-incorrectly stating that the movie opens "today."

Week 17 (1,578 – 579xK): January 9-11, 13, 12

  • Originally scheduled for January 9-13.
  • On Monday, Miss America 2011 Teresa Scanlan appears to help present the prize in the third game and the second showcase.
  • On Tuesday, Temptation is won for the first time since February 13, 2007, snapping what at the time was the longest non-Plinko losing streak in Price Is Right history.
  • Wednesday's show serves as a "baby shower" episode; all the contestants are expectant mothers, and most of the prizes are somehow connected to babies. The episode is partially sponsored by TheBump.com.
  • On Wednesday, the logos in the opening, on Door #4, and in the commercial bumpers is flanked by pacifiers and a rattle.
  • On Wednesday, the background on Door #4 is cascading sunburst patterns instead of cascading squares.
